Hailing our newest champion

I hate to be the guy that puts the kiss of death on a glorious run of wins...but I can’t resist but draw attention to the next (or current) big thing in Australian sports that many of you wouldn’t be aware of.

Please step up to the dais – Black Caviar!

Black Caviar is an Aussie Thoroughbred racehorse who is currently rated as the best racehorse in the world. This is on the back of an amazing record that reads:
Starts – 11 Wins - 11

Read that again. Starts 11, wins 11. Amazing!!!

Not only is she undefeated, she is undefeated racing against some hot competition. Her last four wins were all Group 1 races, and she won her last start in record time.

Now I’m not a punter by nature, so won’t be putting my money where my mouth is. But if I had a lazy hundred floating about...it would be on Black Caviar.

NOTE: My apologies in advance to Black Caviar, her jockey, trainer, owner and all associated connections if I’ve just put the mocker on. Not my intention

THUMBS

UP: Nole Djokovic. It seems like a running theme that Nole makes a positive appearance in this section each week. And as far as I’m concerned - keep it coming. The Djoker was made to work hard for his fourth title of the year, but still came up trumps for the second consecutive final against Rafa Nadal. Still undefeated in 2011. Samo napred!

DOWN: Anthony Watmough and Terence Seu Seu. What is with the symbiotic relationship between NRL players and public urination? Honestly. Take a leak before you leave the pub. If you forgot, hold it in. If you really can’t hold it in, go behind a tree or find a dark alley. Don’t urinate on a shop front. Simple human decency you planks! Although these are Manly players...so I should be surprised or disgusted! Comes with the territory

UP: Wayne Rooney. He scores a hat trick, tells the world to get f#cked, and then scores the winner versus Chelsea in the Champions League. Phenomenal week!

DOWN: Italian Football. Remember the days when AC Milan or Juve were guaranteed at least a final appearance in European Competition? Long gone my friends! Italian football has been on the wane for the past decade. An inspired effort by 'The Special One' Jose Mourinho took Inter to the ECL title last season. But after the dismal performances in the 2010/11 Champions League, coupled with Italy's meek exit from the World Cup, and I'm ready to put in a fork into a former super power of world football. Such a shame

UP: Mourinho. Speaking of the Special One, did you know that he recently held a record for coaching 150 unbeaten home league games? The run started when he was with Porto, and started Feb 2002. It spanned nine years and four teams (Porto, Chelsea, Inter, and Real Madrid), lasting until Feb 2011 when Sporting Gijon defeated Real Madrid 1-0 at the Bernabeu. What I'd give for this guy to replace Sir Alex of Ferguson!

DOWN: Matt Keating. Not because he was bitten by his parents dog, in turn lacerating his finger and forcing him to miss the next six weeks out injured...but because he owns (or his parents own) a bulldog. Come on! You're an Eels boy through and through. Buy a German Shepherd, Pit-bull, Rotti, Lab, Beagle...whatever. Just not a bulldog. In the end karma dictated that you deserved this buddy. In his defence...at least he isn't Joel Monaghan

TIPPING

Six from eight last week. Nice!!! Although I don’t expect that sort of form to continue.

NRL Round 5 Tips

Fri 08 Apr

7:30 pm Cowboys vs. Titans, Dairy Farmers Stadium
TIP: Cowboys.
Night game at Diary Farmers. Titans still looking for their best form. Cowboys by 12+

7:30 pm Wests Tigers vs. Rabbitohs, Sydney Football Stadium
TIP: Rabbits.
I’m not a fan of the Bunnies. Shouldn’t even be in the comp by my reckoning. But the Tigers, with all of their injuries, will be hard pressed to stop Souths, high after their dramatic win last weekend

Sat 09 Apr

5:30 pm NZ Warriors vs. Roosters, Mt Smart Stadium
TIP: Warriors.
I’m using home ground advantage to guide this pick. Side note: SPECIAL MEMO to Todd Carney and Roosters management. When did training become more important than a court appearance?

7:30 pm Panthers vs. Raiders, Centrebet Stadium
TIP: Panthers.
Matt Orford on the verge of being dumped from First Grade. Josh Dugan struggling with injury. Panthers to win at home

7:30 pm Sharks vs. Sea Eagles, Toyota Stadium
TIP: Sharks.
Really tough one to pick. Sharks forwards are starting to play to their reputation, and will make the Manly pack p#ss their pants! (Sorry, couldn’t let that one go)

Sun 10 Apr

2:00 pm Storm vs. Eels, AAMI Park
TIP: Eels.
Storm at home. Storm in great form. Eels struggling for consistency. Eels nowhere near the quality in key positions. I still tip the Eels...that’s why I'll never win a tipping comp

3:00 pm Steelers vs. Bulldogs, Sydney Cricket Ground
TIP: Steelers.
Just too good all over the park, especially considering the Dogs were brought crashing down to Earth last week by the Storm. BTW - great to see some footy back at the G

Mon 11 Apr 7:00 pm

Broncos vs. Knights, Suncorp Stadium
TIP: Broncos.
They're always a tough proposition at Suncorp
